Tasting notes
This Marlborough Pinot Gris had a short spell of skin contact to enhance colour and flavour. very pale pink with orange hue, this white wine displays aromas of ripe melon, citrus and stone fruit. a very interesting mouthfeel with fresh finish. Pinot Gris is a variety that can have both white and red grapes in a bunch, giving this wine a more intense colour. Slightly off dry and very easy to drink.
Background
Allan Scott Family Winemakers cellar is situated on Jackson road, across the vineyards of Cloudy Bay. Allan Scott’s vineyards are largely planted on the stony, free draining mid-Wairau Valley river flats. The vineyards are sustainably managed, and with the care given during the growing season produce some of the world’s greatest wines. 2019 growing season was warmer and less windy than usual. This meant during the crucial flowering stage, pollination was a lot lighter than usual. Fortunately, with Allan Scott and his 44 years of growing grapes and making wine across the country. Careful planning and meticulous attention in the vineyard kept the pinot gris grapes reached their full potential. The grapes were machine harvested to break up the grapes and to help with maximum extraction from the fruit. The juice was then cool fermented to retain fruit characters before being conditioned prior to bottling.
